 PEPA® Synthetic Paper Q&A

I.Obtaining PEPA®

1.Q: How can I receive a sample of the PEPA®
A: Please contact our sales department. We will provide a proper sample that will meet your processing needs.

2.Q: What are the dimensions for the PEPA®
A: PEPA® comes in two different packaging sizes – sheet packaging and roll packaging. Sheet packaging has two standard sizes: 31 inches*43 inches, 25 inches*35 inches, and other customized sizes. Roll packaging only suits customized sizes. Please consider your needs before placing your order.

3.Q: Where do I buy PEPA®
A: Our products are sold primarily via global distributors . We are eager to provide full details of our distributors upon request. Please contact us for more information, and we will refer you to the suitable distributor according to your company’s location.

II.Product Features and Applications

1.Q: What are the differences between synthetic paper and normal paper?
A: Normal paper is mainly made from wood pulp while synthetic paper is mostly manufactured with petrochemical synthetic resin, also known as plastic! Therefore, synthetic paper shares several features with plastic while retaining its appearance as normal paper. Compared to normal paper, synthetic paper has better water-resistance performance (it suffers nearly no structural damage or deformation under moist conditions) and durability (able to endure tearing). Furthermore, it also has better tolerances to chemicals and oil of all sorts due to its smooth surface. Overall, synthetic paper is a type of paper that simultaneously achieves features of a printable paper and functional plastic.

2.Q: What is PEPA®
A: PEPA® is a registered trademark for pearlescent shimmer paper products, produced by Nan Ya Plastics Corporation. It is also the product label of Nan Ya Plastics Corporation Division III. PEPA® is a term derived from “pearl shimmer” and PEPA®. Before using our registered trademark, please refer to our company’s trademark regulations.

3.Q: Is PEPA® recyclable?
A: Yes, it is recyclable. Pearlescent shimmer paper is made with polypropylene, which is a recyclable material that can be recycled via various means. Like the materials used in vast cosmetic containers, PEPA sticker also contains polyolefin resin that can be recycled directly without being removed from the container. After being recycled, it goes through fusion molding and is reprocessed into products such as plastic pallet, plastic flowerpots, and plastic hangers.

4.Q: How do I handle PEPA®
A: Besides recycling “PEPA”, it can be treated as combustible waste, because it does not emit toxic chemicals when incinerated. Please follow local regulations concerning waste plastic products when handling household plastic products. If PEPA is for commercial use, it must be treated as industrial waste.

5.Q: Can PEPA® be used in duplicating machines or laser printers
A: No, it cannot. Standard duplicating machines release high heat and will deform “PEPA”, resulting in unexpected problems. Please avoid these types of applications.

6.Q: How long has PEPA® been in use?
A: We have devoted ourselves to the research and development of PEPA® since 1991. Rapid development of contemporary society and the overuse of natural resources over the last 50 years has led to environmental destruction and impact on human lives. We believe that unless we develop an alternative type of paper, trees that provide materials for making natural paper, carton boxes and pallets, which are the foundations of civilizations and industries, will dwindle, affecting future papermaking. With regards to this account, in 1991, Nan Ya Plastics Corporation began its seven-year research and developing program that costed tens of million dollars. In May 1998, PEPA® was officially released. Our synthetic paper, PEPA®, uses PP as main raw material, but has less PP proportion than other synthetic paper. It has good rigidity and coating, and is cheap in price. Our synthetic paper is the one most likely to replace normal paper; hence, PEPA® is now a certified trademark.

7.Q: What are Nan Ya Plastics Corporation’s PEPA® environmental protection measures
A: Factories producing “PEPA” are ISO-14001 certified. Furthermore, we continuously and actively devote to protecting the environment, such as replacing the older paint coating system with water-based paint systems. In addition, we strictly prohibit the use of harmful substances (such as lead, hexavalent chromium, mercury, cadmium, BHA, and phthalates) or other environmental damaging substances in every stage of production.

8.Q: What are PEPA® recycling pathways?
A: Bits and pieces of the cuttings left from manufacturing are recycled as raw materials. Other waste materials are recycled and used in manufacturing plastic pallets.

9.Q: What are the applications of PEPA®
A: PEPA® has a diverse range of applications. Due to its excellence for printing and great performance as plastic, it is widely used in all sorts of stickers, and can be applied as the base for coating and substrates. Additionally, it is adopted in various fields, such as industrial printing and packaging. Please refer to our product information page for more information.

III.Printing and Processing

1.Q: Can PEPA® be applied to inkjet printers?
A: PEPA® can be applied to inkjet printers in two methods:
1 . For UV or Latex system inkjet printers, PEPA® can be applied directly.
2 . For solvent or eco-solvent system inkjet printers, PEPA® must have a layer of coating on the ink-receiving side before printing.

2.Q: Is specific ink required for printing?
A: Yes, it is required. Like most synthetic paper, PEPA® requires specified synthetic-paper printing ink to achieve desired drying speeds and adhesive strengths. Should UV or heating oven cannot be available during your printing process, please use full oxidation drying inks instead. Refer to printing precautions for more information.

3.Q: What are the printing precautions for PEPA®
A: Before printing, please take in consideration printing ink, drying time, protection for dusting and other preparations are at hand. Refer to printing precautions for more information.

4.Q: What do we need to pay attention to while producing the PEPA®
A: During the manufacturing processing, you might need to pay special attention while cutting, punching the holes and folding of our paper products. Please refer to the pages for focused attention on processing, in order to obtain more detailed information.

5.Q: Is it recommended to use the PEPA® for the shading of your lighting equipment?
A: The PEPA® possesses lower thermal resistance. While using this together with the lighting equipment, you must keep enough distance away from the high temperature.
